The IRBC is delighted to welcome Lorraine Benson to the committee in the new role of Keeper of the Provisional List. Lorraine is an active ringer and has been birding all her life in Ireland and abroad, visiting various countries across Europe and Africa as well as the USA and Indonesia. In recent years, Lorraine's interests have focused on bird ringing and studying migration at Irish bird observatories such as Cape Clear, Great Saltee Island and Copeland Island as well as in Belgium and in the UK, most notably at Icklesham ringing station and Dungeness Bird Observatory.

Lorraine has previously been a committee member of the BirdWatch Ireland Tolka Branch but now contributes to the activities of the Kildare Branch. She has a Masters in Environmental Science from UCD with a thesis focusing on Light-bellied Brent Geese in Dublin and has also published research in the journal Irish Birds and contributed to Bird Habitats in Ireland (Nairn & O’Halloran 2012). We welcome Lorraine to the committee and have no doubt she will be a considerable asset to the IRBC.
